• Oxford School of Excellence (formerly Bala Hissar Academy) was established on 18th July 1983 by Group. Capt. (Late) Sardar Amanullah and his wife Mrs. Humera Amanullah, upon his retirement from the Indian Air Force. The original name of Bala Hissar, which means “THE CITADEL AT THE TOP”, is derived from an historic fortress in Afghanistan, the ancestral home of the founders.
• Initially established as a primary school it grew rapidly and by 1988 had obtained full accreditation from the Council for the India School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The school prepares students for the ICSE (class 10) and ISC (class 12) Examinations.
• Late Mrs. Humera Amanullah, one of the founder members, devoted her life in the service of humanity, especially the weak and needy. Not only was she intensely involved in the school but also in her continued endeavours to help less-fortunate people in society. She was a strong advocate for the empowerment of the female child and sponsored a girls’ primary school in the village of Dhaki near Sahaspur. After the demise of the legendary Group Capt. Amanullah, his legacy is being carried forward by his son and current President of the Society, Mr. Najib Amanullah, a lifetime member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
• English is the medium of instruction throughout the school but Hindi holds a place of every high importance in the curriculum and every effort is made to ensure that each student reaches a high standard in the language. A wide range of subjects is offered in the higher classes and students may join Science, Commerce or Art streams. Students will find learning a pleasure during their stay at the school and will be assisted by the highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty.
