Prabhat Tara School, Muzaffarpur is a Catholic Minority school founded and managed by the members of the International Catholic Women Religious Congregation known as Sisters of Mercy of the Holy cross. This Congregation was founded in Switzerland in the year 1856 by Fr. Theodosius Florentini OFM Cap. And Mother Maria Theresa Scherer. The members of this Congregation work in almost all the Continents- America (North & South), Africa, Europe and Asia.

The Motto of the Congregation is "The Need of the Time is the will of God". The sisters started to function in India in the year 1894. Keeping the motto in mind the sisters have established centers in 18 states in India, responding to the invitations of different societies and organizations. They serve the Nation in various fields like : Formal and Non-Formal Education, Teachers Training, Nursing Training, Social work, Vocational Training Programmes, Hospitals, Care of the Old, Widows, Orphans etc. In all these the poor, oppressed and socially less privileged are given priority.

Mission Statement:

By 2020 our school will form young women and men of character who will distinguish themselves by the academic and profession excellence, sound in spiritual and moral values, holistic growth in their intellectual, emotional, physical, aesthetic abilities, spirit of selfless service, and leadership qualities. Thus they will commit themselves to the transformation of present day social conditions and contribute towards building a just and eco-friendly human society where genuine freedom,equality of opportunity and respect for religion, moral and social values found in the constitution of India will prevail.

Prabhat Tara School, Muzaffarpur is owned by Bettiah Holy Cross Sisters Society Bettiah which is a registered society under the Societies Registration Act. 1960.
